2017 Outremer 51

The 2017 Outremer 51 is a composite fiberglass catamaran built for serious ocean cruising. She features extensive carbon reinforcement throughout—mast, longeron, bulkheads, bimini, and steering wheel—that enhances her strength without adding weight. Twin Volvo D2-40 diesel engines provide reliable power, each with 1,600 hours of operation and recently serviced saildrives with new seals. The owner's version provides three cabins, with the starboard forward cabin convertible between office, bunks, or double berth configuration. At 51 feet long with a 24-foot-9-inch beam and just 3 feet 2 inches draft with boards up, she balances cruising comfort with practical shallow-water capability.

Alegria has been thoroughly upgraded and maintained with an extensive preventative program completed between 2021 and 2026. The electrical system is modern and robust: a 1,000Ah lithium battery bank paired with 2,400 watts of total solar capacity across the bimini and davits, a 5kW Northern Lights generator, and a Watt & Sea hydro-generator. Dual Mastervolt inverter/chargers provide redundancy, and the system supports both 110V US and 220V EU shore power. Climate control includes 12-volt Mabru air conditioning throughout the three cabins and salon, plus a Webasto diesel heating system and multiple ventilation fans.

The sail inventory reflects serious offshore capability: a Hydranet fully battened square-top mainsail, reefable furlers for genoa and staysail, two Code D sails including a newer high-performance design, two Code 0s in different wind ratings, a high-wind symmetrical spinnaker, and storm jib. Standing rigging was replaced in 2026 with Kevlar shrouds, and the continuous furler was upgraded to a Facnor with ratchet. Navigation and communications are comprehensive—dual Zeus2 chartplotters, dual fully redundant autopilot systems on separate networks with cordless Bluetooth remotes, B&G radar, Iridium satellite phone, Iridium GO, and Starlink installed.

Below deck, systems reflect years of thoughtful cruising preparation: a 400-liter freshwater capacity split between two tanks, a Spectra Newport 400z watermaker with a spare Rainman 120V unit, 12-volt Mabru air conditioning, Isotherm refrigeration with upgraded cooling, and an Airlux three-burner stove with oven. Ground tackle includes a 77-pound Ultra anchor with 80 meters of 3/8-inch G4 chain, an 8-person offshore liferaft certified in 2024, and all required safety equipment. She carries a 12-foot AB inflatable tender with a 25hp Yamaha 2-stroke engine. The inventory of spares is substantial, including a complete rudder, extra saildrive lower leg, windlass motor, alternators, and extensive electrical and plumbing components.
