The Leopard 40 is a 40-foot catamaran with a 22-foot beam, built from fiberglass by Robertson & Caine to designs by Simonis-Voogd naval architects. Twin Yanmar diesel engines of 58 horsepower each power the yacht. The design emphasizes open space and natural light through expansive windows and doors, creating an interior feel larger than the boat's footprint. A raised helm station is accessible from both the cockpit and side deck, positioned to keep the helmsman engaged with the rest of the crew.
The layout centers on a forward-facing galley with a large window and direct access to the forward platform. The main saloon features a forward-facing settee and dining table separated from the aft cockpit by sliding glass doors, which open the living space and support natural ventilation. Four staterooms and two heads provide accommodation throughout the boat. Two staterooms include additional sleeping areas for children. The galley is fully equipped, and the interior dining area seats eight and converts to additional lounging space.
Exterior spaces include a forward deck for lounging and an aft deck suited for entertaining, barbecuing, fishing, and water sports. The hull design and sail plan of over 1,000 square feet are optimized for blue water cruising performance. The boat sleeps eight to ten adults in total.
This yacht has been hauled annually and winterized throughout its operating life. It was sailed to Key West in its first season and has since been based in Connecticut, where it has primarily cruised Long Island Sound and the surrounding waters including Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Montauk.
