The 2019 Knysna 500SE is a 50-foot fiberglass catamaran designed as a capable blue water cruiser. This model was nominated for multi-hull of the year in 2019 and represents an international standard in catamaran design. The boat is powered by a single Yanmar 80 horsepower diesel engine with long SD60 sail drive leg.
The layout centers on an open plan saloon with galley, accessed from a large cockpit suitable for entertaining. Below deck, the accommodation comprises three cabins, each with ensuite facilities, plus one convertible cabin, offering sleeping for up to eight guests. The master cabin is positioned on the port side.
The boat carries extensive equipment additions beyond the factory specification. Navigation and electronics include an AIS system and Garmin electronics package. The rig features a Profurl NDEC 430 roller furler and screecher package with sail, rigging, and Karver fuller. Power generation is supported by a Panda generator, solar panels, and Mastervolt lithium ion batteries. Additional systems include a fuel polishing system and Schencker watermaker. Comfort and practical features range from upgraded maindeckwindow covers and Perma-Teak upgrades to a bait station and an Infanta 3.6SR tender with Mercury 20HP four-stroke outboard.
