The Amel 50 is a fiberglass bluewater cruiser designed and built in France for extended ocean voyaging. The hull employs vinylester resins with laminated bulkheads for rigidity and torsion resistance. The boat features a deep, well-protected cockpit with a fixed doghouse above the helm station, and the interior gains natural light and ventilation through eight deck hatches, seven portholes, and numerous large hull ports and coachhouse windows.
The 54-foot yacht accommodates three cabins and two heads. The interior is finished in silk-varnished American walnut with white-covered panels, light laminated floorboards, and leather accents. A single Volvo Penta 150 hp diesel engine powers the boat, supported by an 8 kW diesel generator. The yacht carries a full suite of mechanical systems: retractable bow and stern thrusters, watermaker, air conditioning, diesel heating, and a washer-dryer.
Sail handling is configured for ease and efficiency. Electric furling systems operate the genoa, self-tacking jib, and mainsail, with the mainsail also featuring electric outhaul control. A full array of B&G navigation electronics is installed, including chart plotter, radar, autopilot, AIS transponder, and VHF radio. Electric winches manage other sail operations.
The yacht entered service in spring 2024 and has seen very limited use. It represents a recent example of the Amel 50, a design that earned the European Yacht of the Year 2018 award in the luxury cruiser category.
