2023 Outremer 51

The Outremer 51 is a composite catamaran designed by naval architects Barreau and Neuman for serious ocean cruising. At 51 feet with a 25-foot beam, it represents nearly a decade of refinement following the successful Outremer 49. This 2023 model, the 99th of 101 ever built, incorporates all improvements developed across the production run—optimized systems, enhanced ergonomics, and details refined through real-world feedback from boats operating worldwide. Since delivery in April 2023, it has completed extended offshore passages from the Mediterranean to the Pacific, validating its design balance and seaworthiness.

The boat is configured with three cabins: a full owner's suite and two comfortable guest cabins, alongside bright, well-ventilated communal spaces suited to extended time at sea. The deck plan prioritizes functionality, with an enclosed, protected cockpit designed as a secure watch station. Electric winches support three working sails—mainsail, jib, and Code 0 on roller furler—enabling short-handed operation in varied conditions. Two Volvo Penta diesel engines of 100 hp each provide reliable propulsion.

Systems aboard reflect a cruising philosophy of self-sufficiency and reliability. Lithium battery banks are charged by 1,300 watts of solar panels and diesel generation, supporting extended anchorages without constraint. A Dessalator water maker ensures fresh water independence. Navigation electronics include a complete B&G suite supplemented by SEA.AI camera assistance. Ground tackle consists of 80 meters of chain and a 30-kilogram Spade anchor. An expansive canopy transforms the cockpit into an outdoor living space well suited to tropical climates. The engines show approximately 1,200 hours of running time consistent with controlled offshore use.
