The Southerly 420 is a 42-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built in 2024 with a distinctive variable draft swing keel system. The signature design feature allows the keel to lower to 8 feet 11 inches for deep-water offshore performance or raise to just 2 feet 9 inches to access shallow anchorages and harbors. Twin rudders and a substantial grounding plate add strength and stability across varying conditions. The yacht is powered by a 57 horsepower Yammer diesel engine and carries a full suite of deck hardware including electric in-mast furling main, self-tacking jib, Code 0, Tradewind runner, and three electric winches.
The raised salon provides excellent sightlines and an open, bright interior. Two cabins and two heads support extended cruising with comfort and privacy. The deck layout is engineered for accessible handling whether sailing shorthanded or with a crew.
The yacht is equipped for self-sufficient offshore voyaging. Solar power includes two 240-watt Renogy bifacial panels with a 150/70 Victron charge controller and two 110-watt soft walkable panels with a 100/30 controller. A water maker, 5 kVA generator, bow and stern thrusters, and full Raymarine electronics package complete the systems. CopperCoat antifouling protects the hull. Aluminum arch with dinghy davits and a Starlink Mini mount were added in October 2025.
