The Bavaria C42 is a 42-foot sailing yacht with a modern hull design featuring distinctive chines and a V-shaped bow that balance performance with interior volume. Built in fiberglass, the yacht measures 14.08 feet across the beam and incorporates innovations developed by Bavaria Yachts in collaboration with Cossutti Yacht Design. The sail plan includes a 54-square-metre mainsail and 47-square-metre genoa, with options for a Code 0 (85 square metres) and gennaker (140 square metres) for downwind sailing. A self-tacking jib, backstay, and backstay tensioner come as standard equipment.

The interior layout prioritizes spaciousness for a yacht of this size. The bow cabin features a king-size bed measuring 1.8 metres wide by 2.1 metres long, with generous headroom and abundant storage. The layout can be configured as either a 2-cabin version with one bathroom or a 3-cabin version with two bathrooms. A U-shaped seating area on the starboard side and portside lounge bench accommodate eight people comfortably around the dining area, while an L-shaped galley sits to port.

Deck layout emphasizes ease of handling and sailing enjoyment. The foredeck and side decks provide ample working space, while the cockpit features an ergonomically designed L-shaped seating bench and large table. The large side windows, combined with the V-shaped bow design, create a sense of openness throughout the accommodation.
