The Helmsman Trawlers 38 Sedan is a new model evolution of the proven 37 Sedan, redesigned with the transom moved aft by more than two feet. This additional length expands the salon interior volume and extends the upper deck for greater dinghy-carrying capacity, while maintaining the large cockpit that defined its predecessor. The boat features a traditional Europa-style trawler configuration with full walk-around covered side decks and a modern sedan profile suited to extended cruising.
The interior is available in multiple layouts: a single stateroom with separate head and shower, or two staterooms with an integrated head and shower. The salon can be configured with either a U-shaped dinette and raised port companion seating with starboard linear galley, or an L-shaped dinette with forward port galley. Throughout, the design combines modern comfort with nautical character through teak and holly floors, teak joinery, and abundant opening windows for ventilation. The upper deck accommodates six or more and includes a flybridge control station as standard.
The fiberglass hull exhibits substantial construction: thick deck sections, deep gel coat, sturdy rails, quality hardware, and exacting fit and finish. Propulsion is a single Cummins QSB 6.7 litre diesel engine rated at 380 horsepower with electronic common-rail controls. Higher power ratings up to 550 horsepower are available. The design prioritizes economical, reliable operation to maximize cruising time while minimizing exterior maintenance demands.
