1935 Custom 35' Cabin Cruiser

Afton is a 35-foot wood cabin cruiser built in 1935 by Neil Banks at the Kruse & Banks shipyard in North Bend, Oregon. The cabin house was redesigned in the 1950s by Ed Monk Sr. She is powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine rated at 98 horsepower, with a cruising speed of 6 knots and a maximum speed of 7 knots. Fuel consumption runs approximately two-thirds of a gallon per hour.

The boat was surveyed in May 2025, when two small areas of soft wood were discovered and immediately replaced. Fasteners were pulled and checked, found to remain in excellent condition following substantial refastening work completed in 2014. A transmission rebuild and major mechanical overhaul of the entire drivetrain were performed in late 2025 and early 2026. Mechanically, the boat is in excellent condition. The cosmetic finish requires attention.

At 35 feet long with a 10-foot beam, this is a one-of-a-kind vessel with extensive first-person history and photo documentation from the builder's family. The boat represents a rare example of mid-century cabin cruiser design and workmanship.
