This 1962 Lapworth Sloop represents a landmark design from naval architect Bill Lapworth. The L-50 combines a light displacement with clean, simple lines—graceful sheer, an extended waterline, and a powerful run aft—all conceived to achieve speed without excess weight. The hull is wooden construction, tight through the bilges and easily driven by a single 45-horsepower Perkins diesel engine, which gives cruising speeds around 6 knots and a maximum of 7 knots.
The yacht has a racing pedigree, having competed successfully during the 1960s and 70s, including a Transpac passage. Her beam of 16 feet across a 50-foot length provides the roomy interior Lapworth intended. She has spent considerable time moored at Howland Landing on Catalina Island and remains ready for cruising and passage-making.
