1965 Grand Banks 36 Double Cabin "PRELUDE"

Prelude is a 1965 Grand Banks 36 Double Cabin, hull number 27, built by American Marine Ltd. in Hong Kong. At 36 feet 10 inches long with a 12-foot 8-inch beam and 4-foot draft, she is believed to be the first twin-engine 36 ever constructed. The wooden hull remains in good and serviceable condition—uncommon for a vessel of this age. A full refastening and recaulking below the waterline was completed in 2016, with thousands of bronze screws replaced throughout and chine logs renewed approximately ten years ago.

Twin Ford Lehman Super 135 diesel engines, each producing 135 horsepower, power the boat. The port engine shows 3,362 hours and the starboard 3,301 hours. These engines are capable of 11 knots and cruise comfortably at 8 knots. A Marken Next Generation Type BL105C generator (5.0 KVA) with only 91 hours provides shore-independent power. Fuel capacity is 400 gallons, with 140 gallons of fresh water aboard.

The double cabin layout includes two heads and one shower. Accommodations feature a Force 10 three-burner propane stove with oven, Sanyo microwave and refrigerator/freezer, and a Dickinson Newport propane cabin heater. A Garmin GPSMap 740S handles navigation and radar, paired with a Standard Horizon Matrix GX2000 VHF radio and Apelco depth sounder. Recent maintenance has addressed the bilge pump, rudder packing glands, and hose renewals. Safety equipment includes fire extinguishers, USCG-approved visual distress signals, life jackets, and a high-water alarm system. A large Bruce anchor with chain and 3-strand rode, spare Danforth anchor, and crab pots complete the gear inventory.
