1967 CAL 36

The Cal 36 is a proven offshore cruising sailboat with a reputation for responsive handling and a comfortable motion at sea. The design traces back to the legendary Cal 40, featuring a stiff hull and easily driven form that performs well across all points of sail. Unlike many boats of her era, she tracks predictably downwind and responds well to autopilot steering in following seas.

Below decks, the yacht accommodates one cabin and one head, with custom high-quality cushions and Sunbrella upholstery updated in 2014. The layout is arranged for short-handed sailing by one or two people, with generous storage, secure sea-berths, and custom features throughout. All sail handling systems and running rigging lead to an oversized cockpit designed for easy management underway.

The yacht has been maintained and upgraded substantially over the years. A Westerbeke 35D diesel engine with 30 horsepower was installed new in 2009 and has approximately 470 hours of use. The rig carries a Cal 40 mast and boom with standing rigging, along with multiple sails including a mainsail with triple-slab reefing, 120% genoa, 100% jib, asymmetrical and symmetrical spinnakers, staysail, and storm jib. A Harken roller-furler handles the genoa and jib.

Extensive cruising equipment is aboard, including a Fleming Global 401 windvane, Pelagic autopilot with spare actuator, SSB radio, AIS Class B transponder, 24-mile radar, VHF radio, GPS, and 160 watts of solar panels with battery monitor. Ground tackle includes multiple anchors—Rocna 33-pound, Bruce 25-pound, Fortress, and Danforth models—with 185 feet of chain and 560 feet of rode, plus an electric windlass. A 9.5-foot inflatable dinghy with 2.5-horsepower outboard, watermaker, and comprehensive safety equipment round out the outfit. Numerous spare parts, tools, and cruising gear are aboard.
