The Cascade 36 is a fiberglass cutter-rigged monohull designed by Robert A. Smith and built by Cascade Yachts in Portland, Oregon. The design combines a fin keel and spade rudder for strong stability and handling. At 36 feet overall with a 10-foot beam, the boat displaces 12,500 pounds and carries 4,433 pounds of ballast. A Westerbeke 27 hp diesel engine provides auxiliary power. The single-wheel helm sits in the aft cockpit beneath a hard dodger, with ample room for seating and storage. A bowsprit was added to accommodate larger genoa and staysail options.
The interior layout offers accommodation for six in a single-cabin design. Headroom reaches 6 feet 4 inches throughout. The saloon features an L-shaped dinette with storage that converts to a double berth, a long settee with teak flooring, and a dedicated chart desk. A V-berth forward and a single aft berth provide additional sleeping options. The galley is arranged in a U-shape with a double stainless steel sink, three-burner propane stove with oven, top-loading refrigeration, and a 6-gallon water heater. The single head includes a marine toilet, shower, and pressurized hot and cold water system.
The rig carries seven sails—mainsail, 130% and 110% genoas, staysail, 100% jib, trysail, and drifter—all by Hasse & Petrich. A ProFurl furling unit, mast-head rig with double spreaders, trysail track, whisker pole, running backstays, and self-tailing Lewmar winches support sail handling. Canvas includes full enclosure, bimini, hard dodger, and protective covers for the main, anchor windlass, and helm.
Electronics include a Simrad chartplotter, Raymarine Pathfinder radar and Evo autopilot, Vespar Marine AIS transponder with WiFi, Standard Horizon VHF, Datamarine depth sounder, and multiple transducers. Electrical systems feature AGM batteries, a Freedom 10 inverter-charger, 90-amp alternator with voltage regulator, and a Spectra 200c watermaker. Additional equipment includes a manual windlass, CQR anchor with 300 feet of chain and 100 feet of rope, Scanmar monitor windvane, and Force 10 cabin heater. The hull and topsides, standing rigging, and running rigging were refinished in 2013.
