1977 Aleutian 51

This 1977 Aleutian 51 ketch is a fiberglass-built bluewater yacht with a full keel and solid construction below the waterline. At 51 feet overall with a 14-foot beam and 8-foot draft, she displaces 34,000 pounds and combines traditional design with substantial recent mechanical upgrades. The hull features fiberglass and foam-core topsides over solid fiberglass below the waterline.

Power comes from a new Cummins 4BT-150 diesel engine producing 150 horsepower, installed in 2024 with approximately 200 hours of operation. The engine drives through a V-drive, paired with hydraulic steering and a bow thruster. Fuel capacity totals 30 gallons immediate supply plus 100 gallons working tanks, with additional 100-gallon and 40-gallon tanks requiring resealing. Proven fuel consumption runs 0.67 gallons per hour at 1100 rpm. Motor-sailing cruising speed reaches 8–10 knots.

The ketch rig carries aluminum spars with standing rigging inspected and serviced in May 2024. Both mainsail and headsails were replaced in 2020 and show low hours; a storm sail aboard requires repair. Manual winches and furlers enable sail handling. The electrical system includes a new 1120-ampere-hour LiFePO4 house battery bank installed in 2024, supplemented by new lead-acid batteries for engine start and thruster/windlass operation. Solar panels totaling 1000 watts and a wind generator support charging. A 3000-watt inverter provides 110-volt power.

Below decks, two cabins accommodate up to four berths with an additional two in the saloon. Two electric heads feature holding tanks, and a single enclosed shower serves the accommodation. The galley is centrally located with stove, oven, 12-volt refrigeration, and freezer. Water systems include a 130-gallon tank and 20-gallon hot-water tank, fed by a Rainman watermaker producing 100–140 liters per hour. Navigation and safety equipment comprises GPS, chart plotter, radar, autopilot, depth sounder, wind instruments, and log. A life raft professionally serviced and repacked in April 2024 is on board, along with EPIRB, anchors with 100 meters of 3/8-inch chain, windlass, and full safety gear. The boat carries a hard bimini with soft sides, deck shower, swim ladder, and davits.
