A 1978 Gulfstar 50 with fiberglass construction and classic cruising lines. This 50-foot sailing yacht is powered by a Perkins 4.154 diesel engine producing 62 horsepower, with a cruising speed of approximately 6.2 knots and a maximum speed under sail of 9.5 knots. The boat has been substantially upgraded and maintained over decades of ownership, including a major engine rebuild with fewer than 100 operating hours, new standing rigging, freshly painted masts, and comprehensive modernization of core systems.
The interior layout comprises three cabins and two heads. Forward is a vee-berth with berths for two and access to the guest head. The main cabin features a U-shaped dinette to port and settee to starboard that converts to two berths. The galley is equipped with a custom 6-cubic-foot refrigerator and 5-cubic-foot freezer, a new Force 10 three-burner propane stove, microwave, and stainless steel sink with both fresh and seawater taps. The navigation station is to starboard with deck access amidships. The master stateroom aft contains an extra-long double berth and private head with shower. Teak and holly flooring with gloss varnish finish and Sunbrella cushions throughout.
The mechanical systems reflect recent comprehensive work: a Northern Lights 8.5-kilowatt diesel generator, 16,000-BTU reverse-cycle air conditioning split to both staterooms with additional 12,000-BTU salon unit, an Ecotec water maker, Crown Raritan electric head, solar power system with three 175-watt panels and battery charger, and an Xantrex 2000-watt inverter. The hydraulic steering and mechanical wheel are paired with an autopilot, and the engine room features an electric oil-change system and fuel transfer pump.
The rigging is extensive and purpose-built for offshore work. The boat carries a 140-percent roller furling heavy jib with reefing, mainsail, mizzen, and seven additional sails including storm jibs and trysail, all managed by Barient winches. A new Ideal 12-volt anchor windlass with dual control, custom stainless davits, and twin anchors with chain and rode complete the deck setup. The electronics suite includes Raymarine GPS with autopilot and AIS, ICOM VHF and single-sideband radio, Garmin and Magellan GPS units, depth and wind indicators, Sirius weather receiver, and life raft with EPIRB. An Achilles tender with 15-horsepower Evinrude and 2-horsepower Honda outboard engines are included.
