1978 Niagara 35

The 1978 Niagara 35 is a classic fiberglass cruising sailboat designed by Mark Ellis and built in Canada. With a fin keel drawing 5 feet 2 inches, masthead sloop rig, and spade rudder, she delivers capable offshore performance alongside the beam and volume needed for genuine cruising comfort. The current owners have upgraded her to cutter rigging for enhanced control in heavier conditions. A 23-horsepower Volvo Penta diesel inboard provides mechanical backup, supported by 30 gallons of fuel capacity.

Below decks, the layout offers two cabins and sleeping for four to six, with a single head and full teak joinery throughout. Headroom exceeds 6 feet. The galley includes a sink and ice-box or refrigeration, and a saloon provides seating and table space.

Systems include a Garmin chartplotter, VHF radio, depth sounder, wind speed indicator, linear drive autopilot, and compass for navigation. Power comes from a 600-amp-hour battery bank recharged via a 400-watt wind generator and 600-watt solar system, with 30-amp shore power capability. A 400-watt wind generator provides supplemental power.

Recent upgrades include a new mainsail, dodger and Bimini top, and non-skid deck surfaces. The stainless bow rail, anchor roller with 200 feet of chain, deck hatches, and ports complete the exterior. Sails include a furling jib and asymmetrical spinnaker with approximately 598 square feet total sail area.
