The Hardin 44 is a fiberglass cruising sailboat built to go distance. Her hull and deck were comprehensively re-cored and painted in 2005, and the bottom received a barrier coat the same year. The aluminum masts and boom were pulled and Awlgripped in 2005, with new sails from Mack added in 2024 and 2025. A Ford Lehman 80-horsepower diesel provides auxiliary power. Recent work includes a new hydraulic steering pump and heat exchanger in 2025, new batteries in 2022, and a bimini and dodger installed in 2021.
The interior layout offers genuine cruising comfort across five separate cabins. Forward is a guest cabin with two single berths. The next guest stateroom to starboard holds a double berth, with the main head opposite on the port side—finished with marble vanity, sink, storage, and shower. The main salon features a raised pilothouse with generous headroom, a chart table and desk to port, and an L-shaped settee with dining table and sleeping berth to starboard. Midships, another guest cabin sleeps two, with a fully equipped galley opposite. The galley includes a three-burner Hillerange propane stove with oven, holding plate refrigeration, hot water heater with engine heat exchange, and Corian countertops added in 2005. The aft master stateroom holds a large athwartships double berth with an ensuite head featuring a composting toilet. All bunk cushions were replaced in 2021.
Electronics and systems are modern and well-integrated. Garmin chartplotter, radar, and autopilot form the primary navigation suite, complemented by Vesper Cortex VHF with AIS and a Ritchie compass. Garmin instruments provide speed, depth, and wind data. Power comes from two house batteries and two engine batteries, both replaced in 2022, charging via a 100-amp alternator. Shore power is 110V, 30-amp with upgraded wiring from 2005. The deck carries a genoa roller-furling system with two two-speed winches, three winches on the main mast, and one on the mizzen. Ground tackle includes a #35 CQR anchor with 200 feet of chain, a Danforth secondary, and an anchor windlass.
