The 1979 Valiant 40 is a Bob Perry design recognized as one of the most capable blue-water cruising yachts ever built. At nearly 40 feet with a 12-foot beam, this fiberglass hull combines offshore ruggedness with the performance and handling needed for extended passage-making. A 40 hp Westerbeke diesel powers the boat, with approximately 4000 hours logged.
The interior follows the classic Valiant layout that has proven itself on ocean crossings worldwide. The boat features a secure galley, a traditional salon with substantial storage, a forward cabin, and a deep, protected cockpit designed for heavy-weather sailing. The accommodations balance comfort with the practical demands of long-distance cruising.
Between 2021 and 2024, the yacht underwent extensive refit work in Southern California and Puerto Peñasco. The standing rigging and mast were renewed and fully rewired. The house deck was peeled and re-glassed with all core issues addressed. The hull received a complete peel, keel inspection, and three layers of biaxial epoxy with a barrier coat and KiwiGrip deck coating. New chainplates, custom hatches, portlights, handrails, and white oak toe rails were installed. The cabin sole was redone and the engine injectors and pump professionally rebuilt.
Electronics include a Raymarine Axiom Pro S-9 multifunction display with GPS and sonar, Quantum Q24C radar, i60 wind system, and CPT-S sonar transducer. The boat carries a 1000-watt solar array, 600 Ah lithium battery bank, 3000W inverter, and a Sea Water Pro watermaker. A 45 lb Mantus anchor with 300 feet of chain, aluminum mast arch, and Standard Horizon VHF complete the systems. Final assembly work remains to be completed before departure.
