1980 Bertram 42 Convertible

This 1980 Bertram 42 Convertible is a classic 42-foot sportfishing boat with proven heavy-weather capabilities. The hull is fiberglass with a 17-degree deep-V deadrise and measures 14 feet 10 inches across the beam. Two Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engines produce 435 horsepower each, paired with Allison 2.0:1 transmissions and twin Michigan propellers. The boat cruises at 19 knots and weighs approximately 40,000 pounds.

Below deck, the boat sleeps four across two cabins and includes one head with a Raritan deep-draft system. The galley features an Optimus stove with oven and a microwave. Air conditioning, a 7.5-kilowatt Onan generator, and a water heater support year-round comfort. A 40-amp three-bank battery charger, fresh-water and saltwater wash systems, and manual hydraulic steering are installed.

The electronics package is comprehensive and recently upgraded. Dual Simrad NSS12 EVO2 fishfinders include DGPS, chartplotter, and Navionics Platinum charts for New Jersey and Delaware. Navigation equipment includes a Simrad 4G 36-nautical-mile radar, a Simrad 72-nautical-mile 12-kilowatt open-array radar, dual VHF radios with AIS, and autopilot with NAC-3 computer and AP48 controller. Outriggers and a fighting chair support sportfishing operations.

The current owner has maintained this boat since 1994 with extensive recent work. A starboard engine major rebuild in 2019 included new liners, pistons, bearings, and heads. In 2025, the heat exchangers were serviced, raw water impellers replaced, and trim tab cylinders rebuilt. The hull received barrier coats and new bottom paint in 2018. Batteries, shaft logs, engine hoses, and fuel filters have been regularly serviced.
