The CS 36 Traditional is a hand-laid fiberglass cruising sailboat built in 1980 by CS Yachts of Brampton, Ontario. Designed by Raymond Wall, the boat reflects a philosophy of uncompromising build quality: solid fiberglass hull, premium balsa-cored decks with reinforced load points, and interior bulkheads bonded directly to the hull for structural rigidity. At 36 feet with an 11.5-foot beam and 15,500-pound displacement, the design delivers a moderate, balanced profile with fine forward sections and flat aft sections that track well and move easily through the water. The yacht is powered by a Westerbeke 30 diesel with a replaced driveshaft (2018) and a Flex-o-fold two-blade propeller.
Below deck, the interior showcases traditional teak joinery with hand-rubbed varnished finishes. The cabin layout centers on a spacious salon with port and starboard settees—the starboard settee converts to a double berth—and a forward-facing navigation station opposite a U-shaped galley. A private head with sink sits forward, with a large V-berth ahead of it and plenty of hanging locker space. An additional quarter berth is positioned aft of the nav desk. Interior wood has been refinished, and the settee upholstery is new (2025). The cockpit is deep and secure, with a dodger and bimini providing weather protection.
The rig includes a masthead sloop with mainsail featuring full battens and an original partial-batten mainsail, a 120% genoa and Hood radial genoa, a drifter reacher, and Hood SeaFurl Mark II headsail furling. The boat carries two Lewmar ST 44 two-speed primary winches, an ST 16 cockpit winch, and several coachtop winches. Additional rigging features a Navtec hydraulic backstay adjuster, whisker pole, and spinnaker pole. Navigation electronics include a globe master pedestal compass, Signet knotlog, and depth sounder (intermittent); an Autohelm 5000 is available but not installed.
Systems include two 100-watt solar panels with Renergy controller, hot and cold pressure water with a newer heater, three Kirkland 12v house batteries (new April 2026), and an oversized Lewmar windlass with controls at bow and in cockpit. The deck washdown and pump are new (2023), and the hull bottom is epoxied. Interior LED lighting throughout, custom swim ladder, and a manual bilge pump complete the setup. The boat also has a custom fuel tank, Bruce anchor, and folding cradle.
