This 35-foot Witness catamaran is a fiberglass sailing cat from 1981, built during the early development of cruising multihulls. The design features a 17-foot beam that fits standard marina slips, twin dagger boards for shallow-water beaching (2'3" draft) and strong windward performance when deployed, and a relatively compact footprint for a boat of its capability and era.
The boat has been substantially modified. The original pair of underpowered diesel engines and sail-drive systems have been removed and replaced with twin 15-horsepower Mercury outboard engines, professionally installed. New aluminum fuel tanks—15 gallons each—provide extended cruising range. The sail-drive openings have been sealed with fiberglass.
The standing rigging and spars were removed for inspection, with worn components replaced and all metal repainted. Some rewiring is needed before reinstallation. The boat includes one head and accommodates multiple berths, though the interior requires full reconstruction. A storage unit contains additional parts and equipment for the refit. This is an active project requiring completion work.
