This 1982 Catalina 38 was designed by the legendary Sparkman and Stephens firm, whose influence shaped modern yacht design through both America's Cup racers and renowned offshore cruisers. The 38-foot fiberglass hull, with an 11.67-foot beam, combines seakindly stability with responsive sailing characteristics that made the design popular among serious cruisers.
The boat is powered by a Universal 5424 diesel engine producing 24 horsepower, fitted with a feathering propeller and serviced annually. The engine is in excellent condition, with engine stringers and mounts renewed in 2019. Standing rigging was replaced in 2020, and extensive running rigging work completed in 2025 includes a newly rebuilt Navtec hydraulic backstay and an adjustable Forespar whisker pole. The sail inventory comprises a 2015 Sperry main in excellent shape, three working jibs by Sperry and Doyle, a 20-plus-year-old UK spinnaker, and a 2024 Sperry dodger. All sails receive annual service.
Below deck, the yacht offers a practical cruising layout with galley featuring a CNG oven and two-burner stove, a custom adjustable dining table, and cabin amenities including LED lighting and a Jensen stereo system with speakers in both cabin and cockpit. A 6-gallon Raritan water heater was installed in 2025. The single head includes recent plumbing updates. Interior cushions date to 2020 and remain in excellent condition; the port bulkhead was replaced in 2024.
Recent steering and structural work includes a new Edson Avalon pedestal in 2025, rudder tube epoxying to eliminate shaft play, and replacement of rudder washers and packing. Modern electronics installed in 2025 comprise Garmin chartplotter, radar, VHF radio, AIS transceiver, and wind/speed/depth instruments. The boat includes anchoring gear, fenders, lines, and life jackets.
