This 1984 Baltic 38DP is a Doug Peterson design known for its exceptional upwind performance and offshore capability. Built by Baltic Yachts to Lloyds standards, the hull and deck feature end-grain balsa coring in fiberglass construction, creating a light, stiff platform. The boat is powered by a 35 hp Yanmar 3HMF diesel engine with a ZF15 M IV transmission (replaced 2020) and features a lead fin keel with spade rudder. Teak decking shows no signs of leakage, and the boat has cruised to Hawaii and back as well as completed the Van Isle 360.
The interior combines Finnish yacht-building craftsmanship with practical cruising accommodation. Rich teak throughout—cabinetry, trim, flooring—creates a warm interior finished to a high standard. Two cabins include an owner's stateroom with double and single berths aft, plus a V-berth forward. The galley is well appointed with propane stove, gimballed butane cooker, ice box, and refrigeration. The head includes shower and vanity. A dedicated nav station sits forward of the galley with iPad integration, and the main salon features port and starboard settees with dining table. Throughout the boat, teak hand holds, cabin windows (recently replaced), and padded head liners reflect the quality of construction.
From 2020 onward, the yacht has undergone comprehensive upgrades for offshore cruising and racing. Rod rigging, mast inspection, and all standing rigging are new, as is the transmission. The electrical and wiring systems have been overhauled, with 3 lithium house batteries (2024) and a Mastervolt 3000w inverter-charger. Navigation electronics include B&G radar, plotter, AIS, autopilot, and depth/wind instruments, backed by original B&G Hercules 390 as secondary system. The sail plan includes carbon race sails and a full complement of cruising canvas from multiple lofts. Additional recent work includes a new electric head (2024), Lofrans windlass (2022), keel and rudder service (2022), and new lift pump and belts (2024). The 12V Tigress windlass features remote control, and the boat carries a life raft, EPIRB, and comprehensive safety gear rated for Category 1 offshore sailing.
