1984 Commercial FREEZER SHRIMP TRAWLER

A 72-foot Gulf of Mexico shrimp trawler, built in 1984 by Steiner Ship Builders in Bayou La Batre, Alabama. The boat features a welded steel hull with a V-bottom and raked stem, powered by a single Caterpillar 3408 diesel engine producing 402 horsepower. The engine was overhauled in 2020. She cruises at 9 knots and reaches 12 knots at top speed, with a Twin Disc reverse and reduction gear driving a 4-bladed bronze propeller. The boat was last hauled out in 2022.

The accommodations include a pilothouse with full console, a captain's cabin, a galley with a 4-burner gas stove and refrigerator, a 4-bunk crew cabin, and a head. The main deck features adequate freeing ports and bulwarks rising 50 inches forward to 30 inches aft. Fuel capacity is approximately 16,000 gallons, with 2,500 gallons of freshwater and 135 gallons of lube oil.

The working systems include a 40-kilowatt Isuzu diesel auxiliary generator, two-drum McElroy trawl winch with dual catheads, and a Carlyle refrigeration system with compressors hydraulically driven and keel-cooled. The freezer system uses plates mounted in the fish hold. Navigation and communication equipment comprise Furuno radar and GPS, dual VHF radios, a satellite phone, and an autopilot. Life-saving gear includes a 6-man inflatable raft and dual life ring sets.

The 32-volt DC electrical system uses eight 8-volt batteries with a 100-amp alternator and battery charger. A mechanical steering system operates through chain and sprocket. Fire suppression includes six extinguishers tested in March 2024, plus deck-mounted hoses connected to bilge pumps.
