This 72-foot steel shrimp trawler was built in 1987 at Roca Construction in Brownsville, Texas. The boat features a welded steel hull with a V-bottom design, raked stem, and square stern, built to handle Gulf of Mexico conditions. Power comes from a single Caterpillar 3408 diesel engine rated at 402 horsepower, which was overhauled in 2020. The engine drives a four-bladed bronze propeller through a Caterpillar reverse and reduction gear, giving the boat a cruising speed of 9 knots and maximum speed of 12 knots. Fuel capacity is approximately 20,000 gallons.
The pilothouse sits forward with steering console, pilot chairs, and visibility provided by Lexan windows. Below deck forward are crew accommodations: a captain's cabin with one bunk to starboard, and a crew cabin with four bunks aft of that. A galley with four-burner gas stove, refrigerator, and double sink sits on the port side, alongside a dining table. The head with shower is positioned aft of the pilothouse.
The fish hold is equipped with two Carlyle compressors—one hydraulic and one direct-drive—and freezer plates for processing catch. A separate Douglas trawl winch with two catheads handles net operations, and a try-net winch is mounted to starboard. The boat carries standard commercial fishing rigging including trawl doors and nets. A 40-kilowatt Isuzu diesel auxiliary engine provides independent electrical power and cooling through keel coolers. Navigation and communication equipment includes Furuno radar and GPS, VHF radios, compass, and satellite phone. Life-saving gear includes a six-person inflatable raft and EPIRB. The engine was hauled out in 2020.
