The Bayfield 40 is a classic cruising ketch designed by Ted Gozzard and built by Bayfield Boat Yard in Ontario. This 40-foot fiberglass hull combines traditional styling—including a clipper bow and teak combings—with the space and capability of an offshore cruiser. The ketch rig offers multiple sail configurations for balance across different conditions. A full keel and moderate displacement provide stability, while the shallow draft of approximately five feet allows exploration of coastal rivers, bays, and shallow waters from the East Coast to the Bahamas.
The interior centers on a spacious main saloon amidships with a large butterfly hatch that provides natural light and ventilation. Two private cabins are located aft, while a separate head with shower sits forward. The saloon features a settee and dining table to starboard, with a navigation station to port. Teak and holly sole runs throughout the boat, and multiple opening ports support cross-ventilation. Storage is distributed generously around the interior.
The engine is a Westerbeke diesel with 52 horsepower. The boat features one head and accommodates multiple crew or live-aboard comfort across its two cabins. This example has been actively cruised on Long Island Sound and maintained with regular winterization and upkeep.
