The Vagabond 47 is a staysail ketch designed for serious offshore cruising. Built in fiberglass with a full keel and heavy construction, she features longitudinal and transverse hardwood stringers throughout the hull. The boat is 47 feet long with a 13.4-foot beam and draws 5.5 feet, proportioned for both seaworthiness and comfortable extended passages. Power comes from a 90-horsepower Volvo Diesel engine, giving her a cruising speed of 8 knots. An inflatable dinghy with a 15-horsepower Tohatsu 4-stroke outboard is included.
The interior layout prioritizes liveaboard comfort with three cabins, two heads, and a full galley. The main saloon features double armchairs and abundant port lights and hatches. The full-beam master stateroom and wet bar support extended time aboard. Teak interiors and a center cockpit complete the classic design, with the deck recently restored to sandwich wood construction.
This boat has undergone substantial systems upgrades in recent years. The standing rigging was replaced and tuned in 2022. Electrical systems now include six LiFePO4 lithium batteries, a 3000-watt Victron inverter, dual 210-watt solar panels, and a Victron charge controller with monitoring displays. The watermaker produces 17 gallons per hour. Climate control consists of two marine air-conditioning units. Navigation equipment includes a Garmin autopilot and Vesper AIS system. The bow thruster received new batteries in August 2024, and the engine fuel injectors and raw water pump were serviced. A new 53-gallon fuel tank was added in 2022. Additional amenities include a Starlink satellite system, dual refrigerator-freezers, and standard galley appliances.
