1987 Hunter Cherubini

This 1987 Hunter 37 Cherubini is a fiberglass cruising sailboat built for extended coastal passage and comfortable living aboard. The design combines proven offshore capability with solid construction, and the boat has undergone extensive 2024 refit work that addresses both systems and sails.

Recent work includes a complete bottom job down to gelcoat with modern epoxy barrier coating and ablative paint. The transmission was rebuilt, shaft replaced, and zinc and packing gland renewed. All three sails—main, headsail, and self-tacking staysail—were inspected and reconditioned, with the furling headsail restitched and a new staysail cover made. A custom Sailbag with lazy jacks was installed. Navigation electronics were upgraded with a new Garmin GPSMAP 943xsv multifunction display and Garmin-Airmar through-hull sensor; the Richie compass was serviced.

The boat carries substantial cruising infrastructure: five house batteries plus separate engine battery, three 100-watt solar panels with Renogy controller, wind generator, and a 12-volt inverter. Accommodations include pressurized hot and cold water, separate shower enclosure, manual head with 20-gallon holding tank, 100 gallons fresh water capacity split between two tanks, pressurized alcohol stove with oven, and Adler Barbor refrigeration. Cabin lights are LED throughout. Deck equipment includes manual windlass with 150 feet of chain and a new Mantus Rocna 45-pound anchor, plus dinghy davits, inflatable dinghy with 3.5 hp outboard, dodger, and bimini with zippering capability.

The Westerbeke 4-107 diesel engine produces 40 horsepower and has approximately 550 hours since rebuild; it runs but requires service. Navigation and communication systems include Garmin radar with Raytheon monitor, Simrad autopilot, VHF radio in cabin plus handheld, and binoculars. An inflatable dinghy with outboard is included.
