1987 Island Packet 27

This 1987 Island Packet 27 is a fiberglass cruising sailboat designed by Bob Johnson, measuring 27 feet in length with a 10.5-foot beam. The boat draws 3.7 feet and displaces 8,000 pounds, backed by a single 16-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine that delivers a cruising speed of 5 knots and a maximum hull speed of 6.6 knots. The engine drives an original straight shaft, and a 210-watt solar panel with Victron charge controller supports the electrical system alongside a 34-amp alternator and smart battery charger.

The interior features two cabins with sleeping capacity for three to four people, finished throughout in teak with teak-holly flooring and teak cabinetry. A single head without shower facilities serves the boat, and the galley includes a top-loading refrigerator with small freezer compartment, an 11.5-inch stainless sink, and a Jetboil stove on a Safires gimbal. Navigation and cabin lighting have been updated to LED with switchable white and red modes, and a fold-out navigation station accommodates chart work.

Recent electronics upgrades include a new Raymarine EV-100 autopilot installed in 2023, a Standard Horizon VHF radio with GPS and AIS from 2024, and a Digital Yacht NavLink2 Wi-Fi gateway from 2022 that integrates with a mobile device for chart plotting. Primary navigation is handled by a Garmin GPS 17x with a Garmin GWS 10 wind instrument, and a Victron battery monitor displays system status via mobile app. Tanks provide 19 gallons of fuel, 31 gallons of fresh water, and 11 gallons of holding capacity.

The sail plan includes a new staysail and headsail from North Sails installed in 2024, with an asymmetrical spinnaker and ATN sock for downwind work. Running rigging was mostly replaced in 2023, and new lazy jacks with stack pack were added in 2024. A 15-kilogram Rocna anchor is backed by 175 feet of galvanized chain plus 100 feet of nylon rode, and a new 7-foot-7-inch Newport Vessels Carmel inflatable dinghy with oars was added in 2024. Safety equipment includes a Lifesling II system, sea anchor, medical kit, flares, and manual and electric bilge pumps.
