The 1987 Sabre 42 K/CB is a fiberglass keel-centerboard cruising sailboat built using Sabre's proprietary Dura-lam hand-laid process with balsa coring. The hull features 8,200 pounds of external lead ballast and a manually operated centerboard that extends from 4 feet 9 inches to 8 feet 6 inches, providing excellent shallow-water capability. With a displacement of 19,200 pounds, the boat is powered by a Westerbeke W-46 diesel engine producing 46 horsepower, rebuilt in 1996 with approximately 4,000 to 4,500 hours. The yacht achieves a cruising speed of 6.75 knots and a maximum speed of 7.8 knots.
The yacht's exterior shows exceptional condition. The hull received a Flag Blue Awlgrip finish in 2019, complemented by double white boot stripes and a gold cove stripe, all in Awlgrip. Red bottom paint was applied in 2022. The deck features white gelcoat with contrasting light gray non-skid surfaces, aluminum backing plates under all hardware, teak grab rails along the full length, stainless steel double-rail bow and stern pullpits with lifeline gates, and ten Bomar deck hatches plus ten opening ports for ventilation. The 8-foot 9-inch cockpit includes an Edson 44-inch wheel, engine controls via binnacle, Ritchie compass, and comprehensive instrumentation.
Below deck offers bright, well-ventilated accommodations with teak interior joinery throughout finished in Sabre's proprietary hand-rubbed varnish. Two staterooms sleep six: a queen-sized vee berth forward with ensuite access to the forward head, and a large double berth in the aft cabin. The salon features an L-shaped settee to port converting to a double berth, settee to starboard, and a fixed teak table with folding leaves. Two marine heads with electric flush systems, showers in both, and hot and cold pressure water throughout support comfortable cruising. The U-shaped galley on the starboard side includes a new Force 10 propane three-burner stove with oven, a Seafrost refrigeration system installed in 2016, and hand pumps for fresh and salt water.
Extensive recent maintenance includes a new windlass, new injectors, throttle and transmission cables, three new AGM batteries with new cables, two new head motors, two new heaters, new generator capacitors, new starter, and new oil filter. Major work includes a new Balmar high-capacity alternator in 2022, heat exchanger replacement in 2020, dripless shaft seal in 2018, and cutlass bearing in 2018. The sailplan consists of a Hood Stoway roller-furling aluminum mast and boom with a new North Sails mainsail from 2018, a 130-percent Genoa with roller furling, and a tri-radial spinnaker.
