1988 Island Packet 38

The Island Packet 38 is a 38-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built in 1988, powered by a single 44-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine. The boat features two cabins and two heads, offering accommodation for seven across a well-designed layout that balances comfort with practicality for cruising.

The main salon is open and airy, with a centerline table that folds against the forward bulkhead and expands with a leaf to seat diners on both sides. An L-shaped settee to starboard pulls out into a double berth, while the port settee functions as a single. Four opening ports and a large overhead hatch flood the space with natural light and ventilation, with two overhead teak handrails offering security when underway. Storage is substantial throughout, tucked behind and beneath both settees. A navigation station to starboard houses the chart table, electrical panels, and inverter controls. The galley, positioned aft of the nav area, centers on a 14-cubic-foot top-load ice box with lift-out shelf and electric sump drain, a three-burner LPG gimbled stove with oven, and a double-bowl stainless steel sink with both pressure and hand-pump fresh water. Teak sea rails trim all open counter edges.

The aft cabin features a large double berth, cedar-lined hanging locker, and access to the shared head, which includes a full shower pan with automatic drain and fold-down teak shower seat. The owner's stateroom forward of the salon is finished throughout in satin-varnished teak, with a pullman berth, dresser, and cedar locker, plus a private head with generous counter space and molded fiberglass sole with built-in shower drains. Cabin soles are teak and holly except in the galley, heads, and companionway base, which use molded diamond-pattern fiberglass. Engine access is straightforward, with large removable panels on both sides and access via the companionway stairs.
