The Bowman 47 is a 47-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built in 1992 and converted from a classic yawl to a cutter-rigged sloop. Designed by the renowned Holman & Pye naval architects, this boat combines proven offshore capability with extensive customization throughout her life. The hull was spray-painted with four coats of navy blue Awlgrip in 2019 and the decks finished in white Awlgrip with five coats. During a 2019 haul-out, the cutlass bearing and stuffing box were replaced, and five coats of Trinidad antifouling were applied. The standing rigging was surveyed and refitted as needed in 2018, with most running rigging replaced that same year.
Accommodation comprises three cabins: a forward cabin sleeping two, a crew cabin with two single bunks, and an aft master cabin suitable for two to four occupants. The saloon features a large in-line galley with a two-flame Broadwater stove and baking oven, plus an oversized fridge-freezer with a Danfoss compressor installed in 2023. A main head with electric toilet and shower is supplemented by an additional head converted to a small office workspace. The layout flows from the cockpit companionway through the saloon to the private aft cabin, offering good separation and privacy. New mattresses with custom linen were fitted in 2022, and the saloon settees received new upholstery the same year.
The yacht carries a single Perkins 4108 diesel engine rated 55 horsepower, fully rebuilt in 2020 with current operating hours at 550. A rebuilt Hurth ZF 15 gearbox drives a three-bladed fixed prop through a DriveTrain protector. The 12-volt electrical system is self-sufficient, powered by three sets of solar panels totaling 1100 watts, a 400-watt wind generator, and twelve Trojan golf cart batteries providing 1350 amp-hours across two house banks. A BOSCH 130-amp alternator supports charging, supplemented by multiple battery chargers for shore power or generator use. Fresh water capacity is 750 liters, with a three-stage filtration system and rainwater collection from the fixed bimini.
The sail plan includes a mainsail with two-reef setup, large genoa, inner forestay, yankee, spinnaker with sock, and a 178-percent gennaker on continuous line furler—configured for single-handed operation. Navigation equipment is comprehensive, featuring three Garmin plotters with global charts, a Furuno 1623 radar, Garmin 600 AIS, Northstar autopilot and wind gauge, and dual ICOM VHF radios plus an ICOM SSB HF radio. Deck gear includes multiple self-tailing winches, a Lewmar windlass with 40 meters of galvanized chain and 50 meters of cable spread across two lockers, and three anchors. Additional equipment includes a four-person liferaft, full cockpit
