1992 Tayana 55

The Tayana 55 is a 55-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built to Lloyd's specifications with a proven design—over 80 units have been constructed. The hull features hand-laminated solid fiberglass with a grid of foam-cored stringers for maximum stiffness, and a modified fin keel with encapsulated cast-iron ballast. The skeg-mounted rudder has internal stainless-steel reinforcement throughout. The deck combines closed-cell foam and lightweight wood sandwich core, with all reinforced areas strengthened using marine-grade plywood. This construction delivers space and performance comparable to much larger yachts, supported by a walk-in engine room and expansive deck space.

The yacht accommodates four cabins and three heads, with a large galley and substantial storage suited for extended cruising. A single 142 hp Yammer diesel engine provides a cruising speed of 9 knots. Deck fittings are through-bolted with stainless-steel backing plates, and the boat is equipped with four main winches, genoa and staysail furlers, mainsail furler, and a bow thruster, all hydraulically operated.

Recent major works completed in 2025 included replacement of four seacocks, full engine service with sea trial, overhaul of the hydraulic backstay tensioner, and functional inspection of all hydraulic systems including winches and furlers. Bilge pumps, propeller shaft seals, rudder seals, and toilets were inspected and overhauled. The hydraulic backstay was overhauled again in 2026. Navigation electronics were replaced in 2023 with a Raymarine suite including a 9-inch chart plotter, color instrument display, wind and depth instruments, and VHF radio.

The teak deck is in poor condition and would require significant repair or replacement to restore functionality. Otherwise, the yacht remains operationally sound following recent maintenance.
