This 1995 Nelson Marek 46 is a composite-hulled racing and cruising sailboat built by Carrol Marine to Greg Stewart's ILC 46 box rule design. At 47 feet long with a 13.5-foot beam, the hull employs cored E-glass with Kevlar outer layer construction, paired with a lead keel featuring a torpedo bulb and glass skin. The yacht spent most of its life on the Great Lakes, a freshwater environment that has preserved the structure well. Power comes from a Yanmar 3JH2-TCE diesel engine with saildrive, which underwent a minor rebuild in 2017.
The deck is similarly constructed in cored E-glass with Kevlar and finished in KiwiGrip for durability and repairability. The rig features an aluminum mast with four spreaders and a top jumper strut, built by Hall Spars, paired with a boom of unknown material. A custom-engineered sprit was added in 2014–2015 to increase spinnaker area by 22 percent, with the existing carbon pole and track retained for future options. Winches are primarily Lewmar, with Harken self-tailing cabin top winches installed in 2020.
The boat carries extensive electronics including Ockam Instruments with multiple mast and cockpit displays, Raymarine autopilot, Garmin GPS, AIS, and VHF/DCS radio. The sail inventory was developed in collaboration with UK Sailmakers, and cordage throughout uses modern materials including Dyneema and Ultra Wire. Recent improvements include new berth cushions with Sunbrella fabric, a rebuilt saildrive in 2014, and runner and checkstay replacements by Hall Spars. A shore cradle, mast jack, anchors with rode, and standard safety equipment complete the package.
