This 1996 Kadey-Krogen 48 is a twin-engine trawler built for extended cruising. Hull number 2, she carries the classic lines and rugged profile the builder is known for—sweeping sheer, pronounced bow, and the offshore capability to match her appearance. Twin John Deere diesel engines of 270 horsepower each drive her at a cruising speed of 7 knots, with a maximum speed near 9.5 knots. The substantial fuel capacity supports the long-range cruising the design promises.
The accommodations follow a widebody salon layout without a walkaround side deck, gaining interior space throughout. The main salon is open and bright, lined with large windows and fitted with an L-shaped settee to starboard and straight settee to port, both with storage. A high-low teak dining table seats eight. Forward lies the galley on the starboard side, outfitted with a 30 cubic foot Samsung refrigerator with dual ice makers, Wolf two-burner induction cooktop, Breville toaster oven, Sharp microwave-in-drawer, Keurig, and stainless-steel sink. Below deck are two staterooms and two full heads: the owner stateroom forward with queen island berth and three hanging lockers; the guest stateroom to starboard with queen convertible and dropdown bunk above. The raised pilothouse sits forward above the salon, fitted with a Stidd helm chair, new teak instrument panel, Furuno radar, Simrad autopilot, and 16-inch Simrad chartplotter (new). An L-shaped settee converts to a double bed for additional berths. The flybridge offers duplicate helm controls and lounging space.
The engine room is accessed by ladder from the galley and lit by LED. Both John Deere engines are serviceable from both sides, with fuel filters and oil drains easily reached. A fuel polishing system sits beneath the ladder. The Victron inverter is recent, and the four house 8D Lifeline AGM batteries plus all three engine batteries were installed in 2023. A Northern Lights 12 kw generator sits amidships. An 11-foot Boston Whaler dinghy with 20 hp Yamaha outboard and an 800 pound hydraulic lift are mounted on the boat deck; a Kymco Agility 125 scooter with 400 miles sits nearby. An HRO watermaker rated at 600 gallons per day and a short wave radio are installed but have not been used. Teak trim is fitted throughout the exterior, with custom protective covers made for the cap rails.
