The Kadey-Krogen 48 Whaleback is a full-displacement trawler built on a fiberglass hull with Kevlar reinforcement, designed for extended offshore cruising. Powered by a single Caterpillar 3208NA diesel engine producing 210 horsepower, it cruises at approximately 9 knots and carries 1,020 gallons of fuel and 540 gallons of fresh water, supporting voyages of up to 2,500 miles. The distinctive whaleback design features a Portuguese bridge, full-beam salon, and single-level main deck that maximizes usable interior space. Hydraulic stabilizers and a steadying sail work together to minimize roll and provide a smooth passage.
The yacht accommodates extended cruising with three staterooms, two heads, and a separate dining area. Climate control comes from a 4-zone heat and air conditioning system. A 12-kilowatt Northern Light generator and 600-gallon-per-day Village Marine watermaker support full-time living aboard. Navigation and communication equipment includes Furuno radar and chartplotter, Simrad AP 26 autopilot, SEA225 SSB radio, and Tracvision satellite TV.
Recent yard work addressed critical systems and components: new bottom paint, replacement of the cutlass bearing and Tides Marine shaft seal, engine mount realignment, new drain lines, galvanic isolators on shore power inlets, code-compliant GFI installations, properly grounded inverter, new AGM start battery, new stainless steel swim ladder, new engine room bilge pump, and complete stabilizer service. A Zodiac RIB tender with 40-horsepower Yamaha outboard is carried aboard and launched via davit from the aft upper deck.
