1997 Kadey-Krogen 48 Whaleback

The 1997 Kadey-Krogen 48 Whaleback is a full-displacement trawler built for extended cruising and liveaboard living. Powered by a single 210-horsepower Caterpillar diesel engine, the boat features a fiberglass hull with a beam of 17 feet 4 inches. The defining characteristic of this model is its single-level main deck layout, which brings together the saloon, separate dining area, galley, office, three staterooms, and two heads in one continuous, efficient space. Two of the three cabins include private desk areas alongside sleeping berths, making the design well-suited to remote workers, cruising couples, or liveaboards.

The pilothouse sits on the upper deck and offers 360-degree visibility with storage, refrigeration, and comfortable seating that functions as a lounge when at anchor. The Whaleback is unique among Krogen 48 designs in offering a Portuguese bridge, enhancing safety during passages. The layout includes separate saloon and dining areas—a distinction from other models in the line—allowing flexibility for entertaining or private use.

Recent work includes bottom paint and running gear renewal, a new bow thruster propeller, stabilizer service, and new air conditioning units in the pilothouse and saloon/galley. The boat has been fitted with new batteries, inverter, washer and dryer, and undercounter refrigeration. Navigation equipment includes recent Garmin chartplotter and closed-array radar systems. Upholstery, canvas, and window treatments have been refreshed throughout, and oil analysis records are available.
