The Pacific Seacraft 40 is a cruising sailboat designed by W.I.B. Crealock, built on a proven hull form refined through the designer's earlier models. The deck layout prioritizes safety and functionality with a centerline king plank, extended bow platform with windlass boss, double spreader keel-stepped mast, and solid boom vang. Lines run aft to the cockpit, tall stanchions and lifelines, eight large mooring cleats, and bulwarks provide secure footing. A molded sheer-water accommodates a dodger, and mid-boom sheeting is fitted on the mainsail.
The interior comprises two separate staterooms, an enclosed head with dedicated shower stall, a spacious salon, full galley, and a navigation station forward with dedicated electronics mounting panels. Engine room access is straightforward from the cockpit and aft of the companionway ladder, with a single 50-hp Yanmar diesel powering the yacht.
The hull employs a distinctive split underbody design with a long modified keel carrying external lead ballast and serving as a grounding shoe, paired with a heavy full skeg that protects the rudder. The propeller sits in an aperture within the skeg, eliminating exposed shaft and strut—a design advantage for cruising grounds where floating debris poses a hazard. The moderately deep forefoot delivers comfortable upwind sailing without pounding. A double spreader cutter rig balances well across wind ranges and supports the yacht's offshore capabilities. The shrouds are positioned well inboard for tight sheeting angles and close-winded performance, with typical cruising speeds of 7 to 8 knots.
