The 1998 Tartan 3500 is a 35-foot fiberglass cruising sailboat built to handle both strong winds and light airs. The hull's elliptical, balanced spade rudder delivers responsive handling and a tight turning radius. The deep cockpit provides security underway, while self-tailing Harken winches and well-positioned deck hardware make shorthanded sailing practical and safe.
Below decks, the layout comprises two genuine double cabins plus a quarter berth. The forward V-berth has a hanging locker, four storage drawers, and sufficient foot room for two to sleep comfortably. The main saloon features port and starboard settees with a drop leaf table, seating four easily at meals or six in a pinch. The galley sits to starboard alongside a navigation station; to port aft are the head with separate shower and the quarter berth cabin.
Sails and standing rigging have been maintained and upgraded over time. The Elvstrom Cruise Laminate main and genoa were replaced in 2020 and remain lightly used. Stack pack, rigid vang, and full winter cover are aboard. Stainless steel lifelines were renewed in 2018, all deck hatches replaced with stainless equivalents, and chainplates re-bedded in 2024.
Power and systems include a Yammer diesel engine, paired with two Group 31 AGM batteries from 2020 and a Xantrex charging system. A Wallas Marin diesel heater and reverse cycle air conditioning manage climate control. Electronics comprise a Garmin EcoMap Plus chartplotter at the helm, Raymarine speed and depth instrument, Standard Horizon Eclipse VHF radio, and a wheel autopilot. The galley has a three-burner propane gimbaled stove and double stainless steel sink.
