The St. Francis 44 MKII is a 44-foot fiberglass catamaran designed by naval architect Angelo Lavranos and built by St. Francis Marine in South Africa. Constructed with solid fiberglass below the waterline and vinyl ester resin infused core cell foam sandwich above, the hull combines strength with proven blue water cruising capability. Powered by two 80 hp Yanmar diesel engines, she cruises at 7 knots and draws a mast height of 62 feet, making her compliant with the Intracoastal Waterway. The 1999 MKII model benefits from redesigned bridge deck clearance and increased headroom compared to the original 44 design.
The interior has been configured as three cabins plus a flex space and workshop, with two heads. Accommodations are suited for extended cruising and liveaboard use. Notable systems include 880 amp-hours of lithium house batteries installed in 2023, a 1260-watt solar array with Victron charging management, a Rainman watermaker capable of 37 gallons per hour, and dockside air conditioning. Navigation equipment includes a Garmin chart plotter with Caribbean coverage, B&G wireless instruments, and Starlink satellite communications with internet capability.
Recent upgrades span 2019 through 2025 and address core systems throughout the boat. 2025 work included new freshwater and bilge pumps, complete service of both saildrives and engines by FirstMate Yacht Services, new hose and wiring, and updated safety equipment. 2024 brought a new in-mast mainsail track and both heads replaced with new plumbing. Earlier years saw new standing rigging, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, steering cables, rudders with reinforced stainless posts, all through-hull valves replaced, new holding tank and plumbing, new trampoline netting, and extensive acrylic replacement in hatches. The boat is equipped with a new Highfield tender and 25 hp Yamaha outboard.
