This 2001 Aftershock SHOCK 40 is a 40-foot racing and cruising sailboat built in fiberglass with a 10-foot beam. The boat features a masthead rig with Klacko Spars, installed in 2013, and carries two Facnor Flat Deck furlers for fractional and masthead jibs. The spinnaker setup includes an aluminum pole fitted in 2013. A canting ballast system with 24-volt hydraulic activation allows up to 55 degrees of cant, controlled via cockpit button switches with manual backup options. The twin foil system pairs a forward canard connected to the aft rudder, with forward rudder adjustments made through a control line.
The boat's rigging has been progressively upgraded over the years. The backstay was converted to lightweight Amsteel, and the hydraulic cylinder received new seals and high-end stainless steel and Teflon bearings and pins in 2016. A new canting angle gauge was fitted in 2015. The hull bottom is finished with VC 17 M, while the foils, ballast strut, and bulb are finished in EP 2000 orange.
Below, the boat has three cabins and one head. The interior includes new teak and holly floorboards from 2015, new cushion fabric also from 2014, and an aft cockpit hatch with solar vent added in 2014 for storage access. A custom carbon fiber "Kelp Stick" is included for weed removal. The boat comes with a custom two-stage road trailer that was refurbished in 2014. Power is provided by a single 20-horsepower Tohatsu gasoline engine.
