L'Esperance is a 2001 Hinckley Picnic Boat 36 Classic, a downeast-style boat built with a Kevlar E-glass hybrid and balsa core hull, SCRIPMed with vinylester resin. The deck and cockpit are E-glass and balsa, molded with polyester. Flag blue Awlgrip topsides contrast with light cream gelcoat cabin house and deck, accented by a cream boot stripe and red bottom paint. The boat carries a single Yanmar 6LY2-STE 420-horsepower diesel engine with Hamilton 292 jet drive and Twin Disc transmission, fitted with a Vetus bow thruster and Hinckley JetStick integrated steering and control system. Engine hours are just over 430 originals.

The pilothouse and deck showcase varnished teak throughout—tapered toe rail, eyebrow molding around the cabin top, coaming, handrails, and teak inserts on the swim platform. Four custom elliptical opening ports with screens ring the cabin house. The pilothouse features four windows, two sliding side windows, two fixed forward, with wipers and fresh water washers. A Garmin 741xs color chartplotter with touchscreen, Raytheon ST600+ autopilot, Raytheon SL70 radar, and Raytheon RAY210 VHF support navigation. The helm station includes a 14-inch stainless steel wheel with varnished wood rim and Stidd seat. Cockpit amenities include a handheld shower with hot and cold water, a fold-down varnished teak drink table, and an ivory cockpit cover with snap fasteners.

Below deck, the interior is finished in satin-varnished cherry with a varnished teak and holly cabin sole. The galley to port includes a stainless steel sink, pressurized hot and cold water, Force 10 two-burner stove with propane remote, microwave, and under-counter 12-volt refrigeration. The head to starboard has a Vacu-flush marine toilet, faucet with handheld shower, cherry vanity with undermount sink, and dual exhaust fans. Forward is a V-berth convertible to a double with matching cushions and storage throughout. An Accupoint heater serves the accommodation spaces. Electrical systems comprise three 12-volt batteries totaling 540 amps with an 80-amp alternator, plus a 110-volt 30-amp shore power system with inverter and battery charger.
