2001 West Bay Sonship

The 2001 West Bay Sonship is a 78-foot composite pilothouse motor yacht built to the high standards West Bay is known for. Twin Detroit Diesel MTU V12 2000 engines, each producing 1,350 horsepower, deliver a cruising speed of 12 knots with a maximum speed of 27 knots. The hull employs advanced composite construction with Core-Cell structural foam, vacuum-bag technology, and balsa-cored decks for strength and weight efficiency. The result is a stable, quiet-running yacht suitable for extended cruising.

The main salon spans the full 20-foot beam and features rift-cut American Cherry joinery with Madrone Burl accents, frameless windows, and a substantial wrap-around sectional sofa. The gourmet galley flows into a spacious pilothouse command center with dual Stidd helm chairs and navigation equipment including Furuno radar and chart plotter. A raised U-shaped settee and dinette table convert the pilothouse into a dining area when the helm chairs rotate to face it. The flybridge includes a full helm station, weather protection via hardtop with Isinglass enclosure updated in 2022, and generous sun deck space when the tender is launched.

Accommodations include four staterooms and four heads. The full-beam primary suite features a king berth, walk-in closet, sitting area, and ensuite head with shower. A VIP stateroom holds a centerline queen berth with private ensuite head. A mid guest stateroom offers flexible over-under berths. Crew quarters with two additional berths are accessible from the swim step and include a separate crew head. All mattresses are new and custom.

The engine room is exceptionally clean and organized, with Northern Lights generators, Village Marine watermaker, and comprehensive fuel filtration systems. The aft teak deck includes built-in dining, Sub-Zero refrigeration, and outdoor sink facilities. The flybridge teak deck was re-seamed in 2022. Exterior amenities include underwater lighting with blue accent capability, wing docking stations on both sides, and a teak swim step with underwater lights.
