This 2002 Bakewell-White 20m Pocket Maxi is a custom carbon composite racing and cruising yacht designed for performance and versatility. Built to exceed ABS offshore standards by High Modulus structural engineering, the hull combines carbon fibre, Kevlar, and E-Glass sandwich construction with a hydraulic retractable keel that varies between 2.80m and 4.50m draft. The design suits fast family cruising under short-handed control as well as competitive racing with a full crew in Mini Maxi events.
Deck layout prioritizes helm-centered control, with major sail systems positioned for easy reach and twin grinder pedestals for crew power. The carbon mast and boom follow Volvo 60 dimensions, enabling use of second-hand racing sails. Equipment includes a retractable bowsprit for asymmetric spinnakers, Lewmar racing winches with coffee-grinders, Harken genoa furler with dual tracks, an electric winch for mainsail hoisting, and a hydraulic anchor windlass operated via engine PTO. Sails comprise a Diamond Sails filmless Spectra mainsail and genoa, plus a furling Code 0.
Below deck, the three-cabin, two-heads layout features an owner's suite forward and full galley with gas stove, sink, and multiple refrigeration. The Cummins 150hp diesel engine drives a shaft with three-bladed Gori propeller. Navigation includes recently fitted B&G Zeus multi-function chart plotters at both helms and chart table, B&G 20/20 mast displays, Furuno radar, and B&G VHF with DSC. Recent upgrades include new service batteries and freshly installed B&G Zeus systems. A Katadyn PowerSurvivor 40E watermaker, Simarine battery monitoring, tender and outboard complete the specification. The yacht holds CE Category A Ocean certification for offshore cruising and racing.
