The 2002 Legacy 52 Express is a downeast motor yacht built on a deep-V hull designed for comfortable performance in heavy seas. Twin 825-horsepower Detroit Diesel engines power the boat, which cruises at 23–24 knots while consuming 40–42 gallons per hour. The hull features a sharp entry with 22-degree deadrise amidships and 17-degree deadrise at the transom, shallow prop tunnels for reduced draft, a skeg for improved tracking, and wide chine flats that enhance lift and stability. Sound insulation throughout keeps cabin noise to around 76 decibels even at high speeds.
The interior follows a two-stateroom, two-head layout with an open design that minimizes vertical bulkheads between the salon, galley, and helm. The master suite is forward with an island queen berth, while the guest cabin offers a twin berth. High-end cherry joinery and cabinetry throughout give the interior a warm, classic character. This particular boat was configured as an Express model and represents one of very few built in this layout.
Built by Freedom Yachts in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and designed by naval architect Bill Langan, this yacht was constructed with the same robust methods the builder applied to its sailboat line. The boat's 16-foot beam provides a stable platform, and the hull design balances traditional downeast aesthetics with modern engineering principles.
