The Hylas 49 is a 49-foot center-cockpit cutter designed by Sparkman and Stephens and built by Queen Long Marine. Her fiberglass hull, graceful sheer, and balanced proportions reflect classic bluewater cruising design. The cutter rig with dual headsails provides flexible sail options, while the aft-led controls and thoughtful deck layout support both short-handed and full-crew operation.
Below deck, warm teak joinery and fine veneer work define the interior. The spacious salon features deep settees and abundant natural light, with a well-appointed galley for provisioning and meal preparation. Forward and aft cabins provide private accommodations. The engineering spaces are laid out for accessible maintenance, with a 100-hp Yanmar diesel and 8-kw Phaser generator as the primary power plant.
The boat has received extensive work since 2019. The propulsion system includes a reconditioned Max Prop and serviced seacocks; the bottom was soda-blasted and given a five-coat Interlux epoxy treatment in 2019, with fresh paint added in 2023. The mast and rigging were inspected in 2020. Engine batteries, house batteries, bilge pumps, and cutlass bearings were replaced or renewed. The Vetus bowthruster was reconditioned, and a reconditioned Cruise A/C system serves the forepeak. Throttle cable and steering systems were updated, and deck hatches came from Queen Long Marine.
The sail inventory includes a new Nordac Furling North main, an asymmetrical chute with carbon-fiber snuffer, and sails fitted with new Suntape. Additional updates include a new Makrolon Polycarbonate bimini and dodger, a Glomex TV antenna, and Starlink internet.
