The Oyster 56 is one of the most successful cruising designs ever built, with 75 examples launched between 1998 and 2010. Drawn by Rob Humphreys, the 56 established itself as the ideal size for owner-operated ocean cruising—large enough for extended passages and comfortable living aboard, yet manageable for a couple without hired crew. The design combines proven Oyster fundamentals: single-skin composite hull stiffened by substantial ribs and stringers, keel-stepped mast, and a full-length rudder skeg for protection. The cockpit was ergonomically developed with Loughborough University to balance relaxation and entertaining with serious offshore capability.
Tokerau is a 2004 build in second ownership. Her rig is configured for short-handed cruising with push-button hydraulic in-mast furling on the mainsail and hydraulic furling on both staysail and genoa. The sails are Evolution brand and were replaced in 2023.
Below deck, the yacht accommodates seven across four cabins with light oak joinery that creates an open, airy feel. There are two heads. Recent improvements include a new teak deck installed in 2023, new navigation instruments added in 2022, and air conditioning fitted in 2021. The yacht is powered by a single Perkins/Sabre diesel engine.
