The Hanse 461 is a performance cruiser designed by Judel Vrolijk and built using modern epoxy sandwich construction with an internal steel grid. This approach yields a light, stiff hull with strong resistance to osmosis. The boat handles easily and sails responsively across a range of conditions, equally suited to fast coastal cruising and longer offshore passages. Twin wheel steering and a spade rudder provide direct, balanced feedback, while the fractional rig and self-tacking jib make the boat manageable for short-handed sailing.
Below deck, the layout comprises three cabins—a forward owner cabin and two aft cabins—with the interior notably bright and open thanks to large hull windows and good ventilation. The owner's cabin includes a dedicated desk and work area, while the saloon doubles as comfortable living space. The navigation station functions beyond a dedicated workstation, serving as useful additional space in daily life. The galley is practical and well-arranged. Throughout the boat, generous lockers and thoughtfully distributed compartments provide substantial storage, keeping the interior organised even on longer passages.
On deck, the cockpit is spacious with twin wheels and comfortable seating, while all sail controls lead aft to the companionway for simple handling. The foredeck is clean and functional with a concealed anchor arrangement, and a fold-out swim platform adds useful space at anchor or in harbour. The boat carries a full North Sails inventory including a gennaker, and is equipped with a bow thruster, windlass, and vertical capstan.
Recent improvements include new plotter and B&G electronics, new VHF, new batteries, new skylights with fresh rubber seals, new sprayhood and lazybag, new wheel cover, and a new 60-metre anchor chain. The topsides were repainted and the sail drive seal recently changed. The boat also features air conditioning with two separate systems, a diesel heater, radar, autopilot, an electric winch, and leather upholstery by Poltrona Frau. A dinghy with outboard engine and a recently serviced life raft are included. The Yanmar 75 hp engine provides auxiliary power.
