Courage is a 2005 J/124, a 41-foot fiberglass racer/cruiser designed by Rod Johnstone. The model is known for responsive handling and an efficient balance of performance and ease of sailing. This example has been upgraded meaningfully: it carries a Hall Spars carbon mast, electric mainsheet winches, a new saildrive, and dual Raymarine chartplotters with mast-mounted radar and autopilot with wireless solar instruments. These additions reduce weight aloft and simplify sail control, giving the boat genuine performance advantages.
Below decks, the J/124 layout prioritizes straightforward systems and purposeful design. There are two cabins and one head, with more than six feet of headroom throughout. The galley is functional and sleeping areas are well-distributed, making the boat comfortable for overnight passages without unnecessary complication. The cockpit features deep seating, high backrests, and excellent helm visibility.
Courage's equipment roster reflects serious use: the boat includes an extensive North Sails inventory with spares, a Carbonautica wheel, fresh brightwork, and a new bilge pump. The single 40-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine drives the boat via saildrive. Everything about the boat's configuration is oriented toward efficient short-handed sailing, whether for racing or coastal cruising.
