2006 Northern Bay 38

The Northern Bay 38 is a 38-foot downeast fishing yacht powered by a single 650 hp Volvo diesel engine. Built on a fiberglass hull with a 13-foot beam and 3-foot 10-inch draft, the boat cruises comfortably at 18 to 20 knots with fuel consumption of 16 gallons per hour at 1950–2050 rpm.

The accommodations center on a raised, angled queen berth in the forward cabin, with a head and shower compartment to starboard. The galley includes a microwave, refrigerator, and sink. The pilothouse features a Diamond Sea-Glaze aluminum-framed windshield with side and aft windows, plus a Bowmar Lexan hatch on the coach roof for foredeck access.

Navigation and electronics are comprehensive: dual Garmin GPSMAP multifunction displays, a Garmin MSC 10 marine satellite compass, a Garmin GMR Fantom 12X open array radar, Garmin GSD 25 sonar, Simrad autopilot, magnetic and electronic compasses, and an underwater strobe light. Communication includes an ICOM M602 VHF with remote station and AM/FM stereo.

The boat is outfitted as a working fishing platform with three insulated fish holds beneath the cockpit sole, circulating raw water bait wells, a 32-foot Hamaguchi outrigger, a hydraulic bandit reel, a Piranha line cutter, and twelve gunnel-mounted rod holders. Power systems include hydraulic steering with double ram configuration, a bow thruster, a 12-inch hydraulic line hauler with retractable davit, hydraulic raw water wash down, and a bandit reel. A REVERSO fast lube oil change system with gear pump is fitted. Barrier composite sound insulation lines the engine compartment, and a Magnum inverter/charger provides auxiliary power. LED deck lighting and a spotlight complete the setup.
